Simon Cook to be Guest Speaker at 2010 Annual Dinner

Locksbottom Cricket Club is pleased to announce that Simon Cook, of Kent County Cricket Club, will be the guest speaker at the club’s Annual Club Dinner and Awards Evening on Friday, 26th November 2010 at High Elms Golf Club.

Simon joined Middlesex from the Oxfordshire club Cumnor, in 1997, together with Andrew Strauss, making his debut against Ireland in the Benson & Hedges Cup.  He

played for Middlesex until the end of the 2004 domestic cricket season where he established himself in both the one-day and championship sides.

During the early period of his career Simon partnered with Angus Fraser as Middlesex’s new ball bowlers.  Unfortunately Simon’s appearances in 2000 were limited to just seven as a result of shin splints and stress fractures.  However he made a successful recovery and recorded his best return of 8 for 63 against Northampton two years later, and 50 first class wickets for the season

Simon continued to take wickets for Middlesex and, in 2004, took 39 wickets in the National League, equalling Adam Hollioake’s record.  At the end of the 2004 season he signed a two-year contract with Kent.

Since joining Kent Simon has been a regular in the side, which is currently captained by Rob Key.  He usually takes the new ball and is occasionally called upon to act as night watchman.
