Fred Taylor Tribute

Fred Taylor 1946 - 2008

We  were  all  saddened  by  the  death  of  Fred  Taylor  on  11  August  2008  following  a  short  illness.

Fred was a Prince amongst batsmen, probably the very best ever to wear the LBCC colours and to grace Tugmutton and many cricket grounds in Kent and beyond.

Not only was he a gifted and wonderful batsman but he could also bowl a mean tweaker that knocked over many a castle.  Fred was also a very successful Captain who led LBCC with aplomb and helped shape the Club into what it is today.

Although he retired from playing cricket many years ago, he remained close to LBCC and took a keen interest in everything that was going on.  He was passionate about ensuring that the traditions of the Club were maintained at all times.

Fred will also be remembered by many of us as a very good friend and, above all, as being a gentleman and one of Life’s nice folk. He will be greatly missed.

From next season LBCC will reinstate the President's XI v Chairman's XI annual fixture which will be played in memory of Fred Taylor.

A Fred Taylor Memorial Trophy will be presented to the winning captain at the end of the match.
