Catford & Cyphers III v Locksbottom Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 16 Aug 2008 at 13:00
Locksbottom Cricket Club Won by 179 runs
Match report
Saturday August 16th brought the away leg of LBCC 1st XI v Catford & Cyphers 3rd XI just a mere week after the home match. Although overcast with a stiff cross wind, the rain held off but conditions certainly looked good for a bowl. In walks Mark "Brearley" Lambourne to win the toss, have a look at the bowling friendly track and decide he fancied waving some willow around instead. What a hero. At 47 for 4 it has to be said some of us were questioning the cow corner wonder, but at least we looked good in our new LBCC trousers.
So, in comes G Mosedale to join C Trevatt at the crease and the pair proceeded to calmly dispatch the bowling to all corners, vindicating Lambourne's interpretation of the conditions, and putting together a match winning partnership of 179. Add to this a cameo 25 not out from Jimmy and LBCC posted 275 for 6 from our 46 overs. It is perhaps worth noting the 4th wicket partnership was coindcidently the same as the margin by which we won and therefore the difference between the two sides.
In reply Catford got off to a shakey start with early wickets going down, but unlike LBCC the middle order struggled to recover. With only 2 batsmen reaching double figures Catford were always struggling to chase down the target, despite RWG Kimber's best efforts with the strategic positioning of his helmet.
With wickets shared all round it turned out to be a fairly clinical performance with the ball and 20 points yet again being awarded to LBCC.
