Raising £76,000 for the biggest project in the history of the club | Pitch Project - Tugmutton Common

Pitch Project

This is biggest project the club has ever embarked on; Locksbottom Cricket Club is in the midst of planning to reconstruct the square and renovate the outfield of the cricket pitch at Tugmutton Common. The aim is to make a huge improvement to the communities facilities as the current cricket pitch is in need of a major overhaul. Increased participation, safety and the love of cricket in the community are all at the heart of driving the change. The works will commence early September through to the end of October 2019.

The costs are estimated at £76,000. The club has currently raised in excess of 55% of this and are on a drive to raise the remainder. Please visit out JustGiving page to help: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/locksbottomcc

The reconstruction of the square (wicket) and renovation of the outfield will make an invaluable difference for generations to come. The expected first class outcome will raise the quality of experience from the first time try-out to the experienced village cricket campaigner. This is the biggest project the club has committed to, but cricket is at the forefront of our world, and improving the facilities we can use seems most sensible use of time and resource. In our approach to managing the club over the last 5 years, the committee has adopted the approach of ‘build it and they will come’. We built state of the art practice nets in 2017 and a fully licenced bar in 2018, and have seen membership numbers rise, attitudes improve and a one-club community mentality that the wider cricketing family can be proud of.

Square reconstruction key results:

  • Remove saddles
  • Smooth bowlers run ups
  • Increase capacity - 4 more wickets
  • Improve drainage
  • Increased performance (after bad feedback in the leagues)
  • Reduce the chance of standing water (get the game on)
  • Square is currently at end of life

Outfield renovation key results:
  • Smooth and flatten
  • Allow for softball games (ladies and juniors, incl. schools festivals)
  • Safety(!)
  • Quality increase
  • Better training / practice experience
